How to Enable Gmail Desktop Notifications
Gmail desktop notification helps you get alerts for all new emails that land in your inbox. And also you can allow Gmail to show the notification only about the emails which are marked as important. This feature is really helpful when you are expecting an important mail and don’t want to open Gmail every time to check the updates. To do this, you can simply enable ‘Important Mail Notifications on’ after that, you will receive desktop notifications for all your important messages.

How to Enable Gmail Desktop Notifications

Desktop notifications allow Gmail to display popup notifications on your desktop whenever you receive a new email in your inbox or primary tab. To know how to enable desktop notifications for Gmail, follow the steps given below.
  1. Log into your Gmail Account
First, open your web browser and then log into your Gmail account.
  1. Go to your Gmail settings
Next, click the gear icon at the top right corner of the Gmail screen. After that, a small window will pop-up and on the same window, select settings option.

If you don’t get the notifications on google chrome, it means you turned off all notifications for your chrome browser. Make sure you should check to allow all sites to show notifications on google chrome or you can add a site (https://mail.google.com) in the Allow section.
  1. Go to the General tab
On the next screen, go to the General tab. It’s in the upper-left side of the Settings page.
  1. Enable desktop notifications for Gmail
In the general tab, scroll down to Desktop Notifications. Here you will see the three options listed;
  • New Mail Notifications on
  • Important Mail Notifications on
  • Mail Notifications Off

Select the “New mail notifications on” to get notifications, when any new message arrives in your inbox.  If you select Important Mail Notifications on, then you’ll get notifications for everything marked as important. Similarly, if you want to turn off the Gmail Desktop Notification, then select the “Mail notifications off”.

Choose the option as per your preference. After that, click on “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the screen.
